Malta's Popular Tourist Attractions
 
The Grand Masters Palace is situated in the center of Valleta Palace square which is built by Gerolamo Cassar.

The Grand Palace was built in 1574 for the Grand Master of the knights of St. John which is now used as the Parliament of the Malta, residence of the President of Malta and for various Government offices.

Up to the end of 1798, the palace was used by the Grand Masters. In 1800, it became the official residence of the British governors.
The walls of the Palace are hung with Globulin tapestries which exhibit beautiful and stunning scenes of South America, the Caribbean, India and Africa. The tapestries are around 300 yrs old but it seems that they are new.

Throne Room or the Hall of St Michael and St George is the grandest room of all of this magnificent palace. It is decorated with a cycle of 12 frescos portraying the siege of Malta. Just opposite to this room, there is a gallery which is made up of the great carrack, the Santa Maria, in which the Grand Master de I’Isle-Adam sailed away from the island.

At the rear end of the palace, you will find the Armory, which is a unique with over 5700 pieces from all over the Europe intimating about the development in weapons up to 18th century. You will find a suit of Grand Master Alof de Wignacout’s gold embossed suit which weights around 50 kgs.
